Resources/Links/Guides
« on: January 29, 2010, 08:53:31 AM »
This writing topic is kinda empty. I feel it should have its own resource/link topic like art does.

So I thought we could post things about writing stories.

So, here I start:
Bunch of bookwriting guides, quite general.
http://www.how-to-write-a-book-now.com/index.html
Comic strip guide:
http://research-writing-techniques.suite101.com/article.cfm/how_to_write_comics_for_newspapers
Gag writing in cartooning (some tips)

How to write superhero stories:

The site contains lot of good articles, by the way.

I am also a prose writer, and improving my ability to write prose also rubbed off on my comic writing.

Some generally inspiring Writing books:

➤ Stephen King's On Writing
➤ Eudora Welty's On Writing
➤ Strunk and White's The Elements of Style

I second the first and third you mentioned. Never read (or heard of) the second. Does it have any specific things you think we should pick it up for?

Great idea for a topic.  Bonus points for Eudora Welty - I LOVE her writing, so it's nice that other people appreciate her as well.

I don't have any links to contribute (boo).

I just recall the way Welty talked about her writing and liking that... She was relateable, even if you had little familiarity with her work or her genres.
It was one of my gateway books into writing better. :D

Should Cinderella Kiss the Prince gives some interesting thoughts on how romance is handled in media.

Most tips I get on writing tend to happen in conversation, so no links there. Most of my books and links I use for writing tend toward the research part...currently for Ancient Greece at the moment. Although I suppose my research links would be useful if anyone needs period outfits and the like?

Maybe if it gets requested.
