Hello, everybody.

On my webcomic, I just posted a blog giving my thoughts on the profitability of webcomics. I'm eager to see what everyone thinks of what i have to say, and whether they agree with it or not.
I'm having a hard time mastering the business of maintaining a webcomic, and I poured my frustrations into my blog.

I skimmed your post. Mostly because it involves someone who sends me spiraling into rage every time I interact with him. If you aren't a member of Webcomics.com they can be really helpful on the business end of things. And yes Scott helps out there.

For one thing though I would point out that if you listen to his podcast you would know that Scott does not ever suggest that anyone can make it in webcomics and he fully admits that getting in on it early helped him tremendously.

All of that said if you are going to hero worship someone in comics I'd do a bit more research (checking out Scott's antics [and my own] at comics news site The Daily Cartoonist might be a good start). My own personal webcomics hero is Ryan Sohmer. You could do a lot worse than emulate a guy with 3 successful webcomics, a tv pilot and movie in the works.

The business end of webcomics is a whole bunch of things. Promotion, connections, networking, niche marketing, savvy,longevity, consistency, luck and the most important element... a quality product. It isn't easy. And if anyone ever told it was they were probably trying to sell you something.

Probably the best and fastest way to get your comic off the ground is to spend a buttload of cash promoting it and hiring people to promote it for you. Barring that it's a waiting game and a whole lot of hard work and sacrifice.
