Hi - I'm Tom -

I've always wanted to start a webcomic, but never had the artist chops, and didn't want to do stick figures.

I do have the comedy chops. Wrote bits and skits for various media, and had friends do comics, but never started myself. I took a break in the mid 90's and now am starting back up writing and producing new material.

If you're an artist interested in collaborating, check out my blog at boffoyux.com and see if we have a similar warped sense of humor. If not, say hi and I'll at least add you to my twitter and Webcomic list for others to check out.

I'm also writing songs and bits over at Too Much Awesome - toomuchawesome.ning.com/profile/TomGiarrosso

and if you're truly masochistic, the Bandcamp site has some of my 80's skits at boffoyuxdudes.bandcamp.com .

Looking forward to checking out this community - looks to be a fun place to meet people and get some ideas on how to learn webcomics from the folks on the front lines.

Welcome Tom.

I feel your pain mah brotha. I too am a writer who cannot draw for crap. Evidence.

I was working with an artist but I've learned through hard experience that unless you are willing to pay them most artists simply won't work with a writer for free. They just consider what they can do more valuable (or perhaps rarer) than what we can. The writing I mean.

I don't want to dissuade you though. Although your best bet is to find a friend who can draw and exploit your friendship. LOL

I'm still drawing the incredibly late Monday comic but I'll check out your links later.

There is a lot you can learn from folks here about webcomics. But probably the most valuable lesson is to do it, forgive yourself for the mistakes you will make and endeavor to improve as fast as you can. As long as I've been messing around in this world I have NEVER heard of a person starting a new webcomic and being completely happy with the way it went. There are always challenges, always changes to make and things to improve.

Good luck man. And welcome.  ;)

Hi Tom, welcome aboard.  I'm the opposite, I can draw but I can't write!  ;D

Rob -

Thanks for the encouraging words. I could try doing the whole thing solo, but I've found that having a person to bounce stuff off of makes the final product come out much better. At least it works that way for me with the writing.

I've got the word out tot the various communities I'm involved with, so I'm hoping there will be some interest out there to collaborate on new material.

You might want to add a .ning.com community to the site. It's free and it's how Too Much Awesome started for the Music community...

I do know that it's best not to wait until you're totally happy with things before starting, because most of the process is learning how to get better at it. Finding the time is where it gets interesting. But getting a comic up is one of my 'Back Burner' items I've avoided for years, so It's on the front burner this year.

Looking forward to bouncing things off of this place. The walls look padded and comfy.

What are some of your drawings?

I've got a webcomic. Click the globe under my avatar and check it out.  :)

Welcome to the board!

While you may not be comfortable drawing anything besides stick figures, everyone has to start somewhere. If anything, don't start with your A-material.

Damn - you can draw! Good job on the pages I saw.

Here's one of the new bits - What if Elvis were at the Salem Witch trials...  http://boffoyuxdudes.bandcamp.com/track/elvis-at-the-salem-witch-trials

Thanks raerae - I've got a few lines in the water on people who might be interested. Hopefully I'll connect with someone with the same sense of twisted humor and fashion sense.

Thanks BlkKnight -

I'll have to get more involved in the forums - so far the place is filled with talented, friendly people. Not too shabby.

And I'd have to disagree on the material... you bring your 'A' game in to start. Otherwise, what's the point?
If all I had was one bit or idea, I might as well hang it up.

We used to bounce around 50-60 ideas at a time, and then sift through the better ones for further refining. Then of course, we'd end up doing the stupidest ones because they made us laugh. I came across a Letterman liner yesterday I forgot about ...

'and now, the guy who thought Samantha Stevens was one lucky babe, because she had two Dicks...'

Gotta love those retro Bewitched drop ins.
