We created the site in a hurry. Webcomics.com went behind the pay wall on Jan 4th and I think we were up and running four days later.
The way the front page works it is linked directly to the forums. There is a hidden board that only the staff can see and whatever the "newest" post in that board is... that's what appears on the front page. It isn't ideal but it does give us easy access to a text editor that the database can pull from and reformat for the front page use.
Creating the kind of front page you are talking about.... where you can click forward or back and sort of leaf through the articles would require a completely recoded front page.
Other people have offered to do it and it has never gotten done. As of right now I don't have the knowledge or the money to pay someone else to do it and Chadm1n is too busy.
To be honest I've been trying to get ads on the front page for awhile... we get a lot of traffic and I'd love to help defray the cost a bit with a PW ad or two. I would also like to get a permanent button on the front page... at least, that leads to the board with all the older articles. But for right now, until someone steps forward with the programming chops and free time to do it for free, we're pretty much stuck with the search function.
