I think the title's pretty self-explanatory. This thread's all about getting some art up in this piece!
I get the feeling that even though the board's grown by leaps and bounds, everybody's pretty guarded or super-serious or something. So why don't we all let our respective hairs down, head hair, preferably... and share some art. Even if you don't think you're good at drawing. Even if you're not the artist on your strip. The idea is to get to know eachother a little better through something we all have in common.
Simple rules. The last two things you've drawn along with a line or two of text. No matter what they are, though, for what it's worth I tend to think 'the sillier the better'.
A story idea I've been kicking around. It's about a character based on a friend of mine and lots of monsters.
Mandy and Alan from my comic ClockJumpers. Alan is a dinosaur. Mandy, of course, is his niece.
Alright. Now your turn!
I actually just finished this. First time in over a year I inked digitally.
...The main characters of my new project are named Javanshin and Razin(Rah-zen). Nicknamed rather unfortunately.
Uh... as stated I'm not an artist. I don't draw for fun. My comics take me a ridiculously long time... because I suck. But, since you asked... the last two things I drew were my last two BWBD comics.
Last weeks.
And this weeks, just posted.
If you want to know what the sign with the bear on it in panel one says you can either go to the site (http://bwbd.remedialcomics.com/) and look at it in our expanding flash viewer (also the comics in general are slightly larger and easier to read over there than these) or you can read on.
It says "Child must be this tall to not die in the ball pit." and the teddy bear is saying "Don't Die!"
Man, I've been putting so much time into my comic that I really haven't been drawing compulsively.
Ummm, let's see, here's a piece of lineart from a comic:
And here's a doodle of an NPC for a steampunk gurps game I'm working out for the summer:
I didn't want to be left out, so I went and drew these during classes instead of taking notes. :P
They are in pencil, but the contrast is increased for your viewing ease.
First I have my two main characters in what I attempted to make a Manga-esque style.
Next I have a MAJOR SPOILER FOR MY COMIC OMG I SHOULD NOT BE POSTING THIS...kinda. You can only speculate as to what it means, and you'll probably forget about it by the time it actually gets introduced. ::)
Oh, and extra points to me since my pencil's eraser was already completely worn away. :D
I won't post my last SC comic page, because technically I only colored it yesterday. (And you can see it on my site, anyway! XD) The actual drawing was done weeks ago.
However, I HAVE been doing a ton of concept art for my band, Freen in Green. Today is our guitarist's birthday, so I drew him this:
Original sketch for the sketch is here. (http://yfrog.com/14bandsketchj) I like how the later version looks, a lot more energetic.
I also did an animated gif of Smoker (my character, who is the vocalist/Genie of the magic Freen in Green Marble)
Technically that's more like 10 drawings, but... ehn. XD I love how animations look but I HATE MAKING THEMMMM.
Yamino, that is awesome, but might I make a suggestion on your animated gif, slow it down so she is keeping a true beat and moving at a realistic speed. I know what she is parodying, (though I forget exactly what but I have seen it and know of it) and she's moving way too fast to be real and it distracts from the actual work that you did because it is a blur. The last thing I ever drew was Sox in this comic (http://insanityofxade.com/index.php?id=174) (it really hurt to actually do even that with my wrist but I didnt feel like making a flat 3d model)
and the very last thing I really drew, despite it simply being a traceover of a 3d image, besides the blue bunny's (Daemon) hair which, I did draw without tracing was this comic. (http://insanityofxade.com/index.php?id=124)
If you really want to be super technical Daemon's texture is the last thing I drew, but that was by zooming in, holding the pen at an odd angle so I would not have to bend the wrist much, and drawing away. This (http://insanityofxade.com/index.php?id=133) is best looking image of it, although I did remove the pink to his lips and simply changed the white of his lips to a darker pink as it shows here (http://insanityofxade.com/index.php?id=138) but that was with the mouse ;) I forgot the shader on his shirt on that one but fixed the ones after that. There is a reason behind his coloring but that's a tale for another time.
Argh! The last two things I've drawn are related to my commission stuff (not able to share, sorry) or not fit for this board (there's a bit of nudity, check my DeviantArt.) So I'll leave you with this.
Deadpool on the Intarwebz.
Also, a link to a wallpaper from my comic. It was a while ago, but hey. Gimme a break. (http://www.takacomics.com/art/digital/Androgyny1920x1200.jpg)
Nice Deadpool. ;)
I think we can all agree that Deadpool is awesome no matter who draws him, but you did a good job.
Allright, I uploaded two pieces of crap just so I can post here :P
I was trying out character designs... (ugh)
And art class homework.

Ever start procrastinating while you're already engaged in procrastinating? I have a bad case of it today.
edit: whoops! This is ...most likely the 2nd to last thing I drew:
The second last thing I've drawn is this picture of my interpretation of poison ivy:
And the last thing I drew I will have to post when I get home and can access my desktop!
Scratch that, here it is:
Wow Mari and Ran. Nice.
Hahah, thanks. Went back and added that second piece in. Gotta jet now, gonna be late for work.
ran, can you give me art lessons?
I kid of course, but your artworks are spectacular. A unique style with amazing execution too.
Well, I dunno about art lessons (even jokingly), but I do tend to livestream when I cg, and people have told me they've learned things by asking me questions while I work, so there's always that?
Haha, err... quite honestly I haven't read your comics and blogs yet because I couldn't really find my way around your site (I have no clue where to begin).
I'll give it some real effort now though because it seems I have been missing out.
My blog is just a blog. For to find my comics and art, check this post here (http://forum.webcomicscommunity.com/index.php/topic,37.0.html).
The last two things I drew were two pages for Robin Rone's awesome new Project Minotaur Original Character Tournament (http://projectminotauroct.deviantart.com).
To differentiate things, I also made some guest fanart for Swiftriver (http://swiftriver-comics.com).
Bowie is awesome. (just lineart) (http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c146/senshuu/bowie-l.jpg)
I've mostly been drawing stuff for upcoming projects. So I can't post those, but I did draw some fanart this morning of Fearless Dawn.
Wow... that's a morning for you? That would be a lifetime of failure for me. Very nice.

Drawing for a friend, and to practice a more dark/realistic-if-you-may style. I haven't touched it in three days, shall work on it again soon :/
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v665/yagiza/drawings/20100211poupeelove_logo.jpg)
I'm not even sure if this is the final version... it's some fanart for a game I play, Poupéegirl >_>
(are the images too big?)
Oh, your painterly style is wonderful!
You lot are too damn good, damn you.
Ran, that Poison Ivy is awesome.
Currently I'm trying to teach myself to make pixel art, so these are the last two things I did.
The biggest challenge I've found is shading. I'm deliberately limiting myself to three shades per colour on most things, which is making me think about it a lot more.
I'll probably add some more bunnies later.
Since this is a series of panels I will just do the one and say I exceeded the requirement.
Everything I've drawn for weeks has naked women in it.
Gib you can always link it. Host it on Photobucket. Let everyone know it's NSFW and link it. We all like and want to see your art. As I said before... I just don't want anyone.... scratch that, anyone else, getting fired. :-[
Quote from: Rob on March 13, 2010, 04:56:32 PMI just don't want anyone.... scratch that, anyone else, getting fired.
Oh my god, did that happen here?
Can't talk about it at all. I promised. But the situation I'm referring to stands as my own current example, among many, as to how brain damaged things can get when corporations are involved.
All I'm saying is that we have to be careful. But at the same time I'm saying, we want to see your art. So bring it on. ;)
Well, the stuff I'm talking about is just comic pages, that's all I draw anymore...a MWF schedule does that too ya. Can't show the last two, since it might ruin a plot point for new readers, but here are a couple recent NSFW pages of which I'm proud. I've never done nude work before and these didn't suck as bad as I worried they would. Plus, they can stand as simple art pieces too, I suppose.
THIS HAS BOOBIES AND IS NOT EVEN A LITTLE BIT SAFE FOR WORK! (http://picturesofyou.smackjeeves.com/comics/805764/3-ii-04-dancing-queen-5/)
THIS HAS BOOBIES IN IT AND VULGARITY TOO AND IS EVEN LESS SAFE FOR WORK! (http://picturesofyou.smackjeeves.com/comics/807112/3-ii-04-dancing-queen-6/)
Hooray for tits!
Also those are some really good feet in the second one. I know they're a bastard to draw, so good job!
Cheers, thanks a lot! I was pretty proud of them. While I was drawing them, I would say to myself, "Damn, I'm drawing some nice feet over here!" I suppose it's good fan service for any foot fetish weirdos that might be in my readership.
Ok, first off Gibson, fantastic art! Not just for the nudity, (which is appreciated!) but just generally great art in your comic. Now I need to start from the beginning and read the whole thing so I know what is going on... faved!
As for me, a sad little cheerleader I drew this morning and a bit of fanart from a few days ago.
We lost another game!

Gibson, I'm still working through your archives, man. Jan 08 I think, or maybe it's sometime in 1827. This is a read... like Michener's Hawaii. Gotta go, boss is smacking me upside the head. "Get back to work ya lazy shi...!" Yeah boss, okay boss. It's good to be the boss.

That's good work.
The last two things I drew were Friday's comic and this Jay Garrick.

Silver Age Flash FTW!
Very nice!
Thanks, Gibson! I'm working on painting the whole set right now
So, remember in my introduction where I said I don't have a webcomic?...
...Well I still don't, actually, but I've entered pre-production on a project with a friend on something we should be publishing in probably three to four months.
Just doodlin around. Can't wait to start working on this in full swing.
Looks "Assassin's Creed" - like. ;)
Haha, yeah. I've never gotten to play them, but I've seen some of the art and screenshots for the games. Easy inspiration, lol. From talking with my buddy who's writing for me, I think that's pretty much what he's going for, at least for this character. Fun little fact, that's actually one of my classmates, lol
Some random doodles and background characters from a current page. Had a lot of fun with all of these =)
Cute!
I figured I'd post something. I don't think it's really good but what the heck. It's from my new comic. Not many have seen this.
the one on the left is named Spike and the one on the right is Ash (short for Ashlyn). they were characters in my old comic that i revamped. i should put my old comic back online just for the fun of it. i had some pretty funny stuff back in the day.
Those are solid prelim sketches. You have a nice style. ;)

Ready for our date...
So, I'm thinking I should offer commissions, especially since my income is mostly gone now.
Any idea what I should charge for something like that?
This drawing I did the other morning, it is in pencil on 110 lb white card stock and took about 2 1/2 hours. Of course adding backgrounds and such takes longer, but less detail would be quicker. I'm not good enough with photoshop to really try for color versions at this time, though I can do color pencil.
Ideas?
Redesigned one of my major character's clothes for ease of drawing over and over again, and also so she matched everyone else's styles.
@Dragon Powered - Honestly, for a sketch of that size and quality, I'd be expecting to pay under $20 for it. If you want a breakdown of why I'd expect it to be for that much, and what kind of quality I'd expect for higher prices, feel free to PM me.
Oh, I should clarify that when I said I draw on card stock, it's not a card. The paper is 8 1/2 x 11. The image I did above is about 7" tall. And yes, I'd like to hear your breakdown, Ran.
forgot to add this: http://thegame2158.deviantart.com
that's all my old stuff. i don't post there anymore. i made a new DA to post all my stuff for my new comic. but that's all my old (and crappy) stuff.

Hey Ran, sorry if this has been answered before, but can I ask you why you draw sketches in red? Is there a specific reason like there is for using photocopy blue pencils? Or do you just like the color?
I sketch in red because I mostly do traditional art. If I sketch on the computer, I do it in a lighter colour so I can print it out and redraw it on paper with my light board. It just makes it easier to see the new lines I'm throwing down if it's not solid black.
Thanks! That sounds like a good tip for anyone who uses lightboards too, and I'm one of them, so double thanks!
Here are my last two pieces I did that weren't 'comic related':
http://twitpic.com/1pgxz0
http://twitpic.com/1p6i8g
The first one is the great Frank Zappa, and the second is the character Maurice Moss from England's The IT Crowd.
Enjoy
Very Nice.
Thank you, thank you ;D I'm pretty happy with how they turned out actually.
Really nice work. Like the Zappa one a lot.
-S
Did anyone else submit anything to the IT crowd's call for set dressing? I sent in a set of joke fire safety instructions (featuring Satan), but they never got back to me so I might have had the wrong address.
@harrington Thanks man. I like it.
That Frank Zappa is amazing Mcfadyn!
Last couple sketches I did.

Thanks guys! The second one is actually a self portrait, lol
Very cool either way
Here's something I came up with, I think I'm going to use it as a t-shirt design.

Thanks! :D
I've been on a painting kick since I got a high definition monitor. Now the color I see is ACTUALLY the color I paint!
It's funny thinking about all of those years when I believed I had some sort of color deficiency in my vision.
Mari very nice. Great to have you back You were gone so long we pulled your front page ad down. If you think you'll be stopping by once a month at lease please resubmit it. Once again, welcome back.
My last blog entry was about Doctor Who and the new Daleks amongst other things.
Also I've been designing lego torsos for the fun of it.
Anybody who's roughly my age and used to play with lego (or still does) should hopefully notice the fact the design is based on the Futurons (http://www.minifigs.net/webpage/images/space/Futuron_black2.jpg), only shifted to a pseudo-historical steam-punky setting.
My six year old nephew has been getting loads of Lego Star Wars stuff. He played and loves the XBox games so it was a natural progression. I'm turning 40 tomorrow and I'm a little jealous. I keep wanting to take the Logos away from him and see what else I can make with the parts. :-[
Also, I'm just going to say this... I can't watch British television. I get that Dr. Who is awesome I do. I just can't watch it. I've tried. The frame difference really makes the crappy production values pop. I literaly go to Home Depot and I can walk around and go "hey look, there's a British TV prop... there's another British TV prop... oh look, the Dr. Who aisle!"

Very glad to hear it. I've always loved your site and your art. ;)

Funderbunk: Poor Paul! :D :D I've made my own World Cup fanart (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v665/yagiza/SPRINGIETTE/100630vamosargentina.jpg).

Testing art style and software for a future comic. It won't be like Springiette, it'll be a story based comic/manga... drawn in MangaStudio rather than Photoshop.

I fell to the manliness of the Old Spice man, and had to draw him Springiette style XD
Here are the last two things I've drawn. They're just sketches for a possible upcoming GL webcomic. Sorry for the crappy pictures... I don't have a scanner up here so I take them with my camera (and if I want to do more with them, I draw over them in photoshop)

(I meant it meaning girls' love. :> )
Whew, it's been a LONG time since I've posted on this forum. I really like the last couple drawings posted here!
If you do end up posting that GL comic, Rennakins, you'll let us know, won't you? ;)

Yeah they are both really nice but the first one is amazing.
Wow, Mari. I really love that rhinoceros beetle. I haven't been around in a while so I'm just getting caught up.
Hey, Yamino, I've enjoyed hearing you on Webcomics Beacon!
I also love the colors in your last post in this thread.
Everyone else, I enjoyed all your art here. Loved "This drawing is now diamonds." lol
Rennakins I have to agree that you really are working on THE BEST GREEN LANTERN EVER! ;-)
Some really neat stuff. I love the Old Spice dude!
Here's the finished character design of Stella for my Obscurum project (www.isakai.com/obscurum.html). It's going to be a web comic narrated with a click-through in Flash and little bits of animation, hence the simplicity.
Compared to most animated things nowadays, it doesn't seem that simplistic. I'd liken this to "Bruce Timm Batman Stylized Design" rather than "Powerpuff Girls Blocks & Circles Simplicity Design".
I'm not usually a fan of the heavy flash/illustrator done drawings but I do really like those. Especially the head, that looks ACE.
Thank you! : )
I've been working on a style that's simplistic enough to look good when animated, as well as easily manipulated, vector being one of the requirements. I didn't want to lose any character, but it's pretty restrictive.
Any tips would be very welcome. Here's the design for Lukoie, another character in the same series. Not the last thing I drew, but I did it right after that last one. Sorry if that's cheating!
Swinsea: your style is so pretty. <3 I love the simplicity of it and I think they still have plenty of character.
Thank you, Rennakins! Vector art has been hard to make a style with, I'm really glad people like it. : )

Very nice! Great work!

Indeed. I've heard hands are tough. Yours there looks great.
Well it was one for the money, then two for the show. ::)

The tree dude is interesting. ;D
That's really good. Nice work!
-S
Well thanks!
Tree dude is the redone version of a character from my defunct webcomic Communication Confusion. I've been toying with the idea of putting it back online in it's overhauled version: rewritten script, better art (I hope), and with a new title (thank GOODNESS! am I right?) ...the only problem is that I still only have 6 pages completely 100% finished at the moment. Maybe once I reach 30 I'll start with them online. For now he remains my secret and mysterious tree man.
I thought it was the Green Man (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Green_man). It's really well done
;D YEAH! I'm glad you noticed! One of my main characters (arguably the main character) is basically my take on the green man concept. In fact, I was toying around with changing the whole comic's name to "The Green" and maybe have his name be "Greene" or "Grean." I just don't know though.
It must seem silly that I have a whole storyline written and pages already done but not a title or a main character name.
Grean has a nice fairytale ring to it. As far as I know the Green Man's just called the Green Man, though you'd probably find a good name by researching celtic mythology.
In Irish "Green" is "Glas" (pronounced like 'gloss') and "Man" is "Fear" (pronounced 'Far'), so it'd be "An Fear Glas". As a name the compound of that would be Ferglas.
You know... there's information and then there's INFORMATION and that mah frien' is INFORMATION!
...is that good?
I'm just spitballing, the green man's pretty cool, he's the basis for the Ents and Robin Hood. The Robin of Loxley character was grafted on later during the christian era, he was originally basically a spirit of the forest that protected the forest. The robbing from the rich and giving to the poor thing was an extension of this spirit being good to the people who respected the forest, and punishing the people who would threaten it. It's a great archetype to work with if you can pull it off.
I love how he's done mostly in negative space. I saw the man first, but it's cool how almost all his lines are the outlines and shadows of different plants coming together along a receding perspective. That's just really clever drawing.
Oh yeah that's good. Real good.
I mean, Mari is all like "yeah he's like a Green Man and I'm thinking of doing something with one of my characters" and then you're like "yeah you should check Celtic Mythology" and then proceed to lay the smack down on the origins of the character and the name meaning in Irish (Gaelic?) and then suggest a name for her within the scope of that hidden meaning... that's INFORMATION!
@Rob: SO true!!!
laughing my buttresses off over here!

No WAY! You speak Gaelic!? That's terrific! As is the name "Ferglas" by the way. I found that there is a Celtic diety referred to as "Viridios" that was said to influence agriculture, but somehow "Ferglas" sounds better to me. Do you mind if I use that? I'd gladly credit you for it! Heck, if I ever get this thing off the ground I'll send you a copy!
That would actually solve another snag I was running into. He and another major character originally written to both be Norsemen (hense the symbol on his head meaning "Oak" or "a" in the runic alphabet), but I'd like it better if they were of different nationalities I think. Furthermore, There is a character in the Ogham (which I think predates the runic alphabet am I right?) that also means oak, called "dair". I could easily switch the symbols and call it a day with that.
Sure you can use the name Ferglas, happy to help :)
My Irish is a bit rusty, I learned it in school but don't really use it a lot so I've forgotten most of it. Here's (http://www.irishdictionary.ie/dictionary) an online english/Irish dictionary, I can help with grammar and constructions, but I haven't spoken or read the language regularly in ten years.
See what I mean... INFORMATION! :o
That's pretty much what I reckon his regular speaking voice is like.
Man, I'm jealous! My regular speaking voice is just weak and slightly prone to confusing r l and w. :-\
INFORMATION voice sounds like way fun to have.
Anyways, I dunno if this counts as "last thing I've drawn" or not since I've been working on it off and on for so long, but I keep meddling with it today, and the sad part is that I really don't think I'm done changing things either:
....you know... after uploading it I just keep looking at her eyes... looks like they're wandering rather low. I should probably fix that.
I think it looks pretty amazing... AMAZING! 8)
That's really good!
Here are a couple of things I did recently. They're supposed to represent playing cards of sorts with a venetian theme. As such, I used the suits from the Italian deck, staves and cups.
My brother is doing the other two suits, swords and rings, for the whole set.
King of Staves

Queen of Cups

Those are really fantastic. Such complexity and depth. I see something new every time I look at them. Very nice. 8)
Wow Harrington, those are great! I love the use of inversion to create aspects of either image.
What's the sheet music?
Thanks, Rob & Gar! That's very kind.
QuoteWhat's the sheet music?
Nothing really. I couldn't think of anything good to put in his right hand. Going with the venetian theme, I recalled that the
mascherari often use music to decorate their masks, so I want with that.
I probably should have had it be the music of something significant or meaningful, but I'd probably be too wishy-washy to make up my mind on what to use anyway.

I wonder if it would sound good if someone zoomed it up and tried playing it on the piano. I wonder if Blue still lurks around here and if she plays piano.
Here's a t-shirt design I came up with today
(http://nekothekitty.smackjeeves.com/files/Slaps.jpg)
Yes but how much for slaps? ;D
Those playing cards are really, really amazing. I'd love to see more once you complete them! Are you going to make them into an actual deck?
I noticed that for some of the patterns on the king, the top and bottom aren't pure inversions. Is there a reason you did it this way?

Actually it
would be funnier with a price tag
QuoteI wonder if it would sound good if someone zoomed it up and tried playing it on the piano.
I could just say it was free-form jazz.
QuoteAre you going to make them into an actual deck?
Right now I'm just planning on doing a set of four pictures, one picture for each suit; staves, cups, swords, rings.
QuoteI noticed that for some of the patterns on the king, the top and bottom aren't pure inversions. Is there a reason you did it this way?
I wanted the two images to merge seamlessly so I didn't turn the pattern upside-down for the bottom half because it might have created a seam. I suppose I could have chosen a different pattern that looks the same right side up as upside down, but I kinda liked that one.

Just started doing the 3D thing... eeeeeeeh, lol. Maybe I should stick with painting.
I like it. Ten years ago you would have gotten an obscene amount of money to make such things for a living. ;D

Don't give up! That's really good for someone who has "just started".
Haha, thanks. Learning 3D definitely feels like an uphill battle for me, but I'm getting there.
Moar arts!

That's really good. I really like the chain mail effect in the second picture.
-S
Thanks, Harrington! I made a chain mail brush, haha. It's a black pass, a white pass, and another black pass, which gives it that sort of detailed look. Doesn't really fit the rest of the piece, but I was just so stoked to use it, lol
*peeks in* I'm not sure this counts, but I just finished this piece up last night and I'm so tickled with how it came out, I thought I'd share. :) Its intended as a wallpaper.

That's really good. The effects with the fire on the trees and the grass look really realistic.

That's some nice lighting work :)
Thanks guys! ^^ I really enjoyed painting it.
Doin' stuff with the things. Still such a long way to go, lol

Very interesting piece you have there, scruffy. I'd be curious to see the end product of this.
Just a writer here, but I thought that some of you might be interested in a cover image one of our artist's did for our series, Bushidan. Just curious to see what you guys thought of it. The main figure is sporting an amalgamation of samurai armor and Norse gear from the late 12th century :P

Nice action shot! Is this going to be coloured?
Yup, this piece is definitely going to be colored ;D
Wow. Lots of nice work in here lately. ;)

I love that picture on so many levels.
Thanks! I've been offering free custom forum avatars to readers as a warm-up exercise, that was my favourite request, so I drew the picture up big and then cropped the avatar from it.
Moar arts! Since there has been such a long lapse, i'll go double.

That's really good! The first one and the last one are particularly impressive.

All the comments are fairy detailed and I am feeling bad for my terrible skills. Well they are not upto the mark that it can even be shared. But thanks for the inspiration, I am delighted to watch something as amazing as these wonders.

River pirates mostly smuggle wine and spices - lucrative products when the roads are too dangerous to travel
Love those drawings, Clockworkjos. Especially the river pirate. Are those pieces a one-off thing or are they a part of a bigger world that's connected?
