How to draw a starfield

So this is something I discovered entirely by chance, and I think it's a good way to give your world its own stars. You need a scanner to do it.

1) Don't clean the scanner plate for a while. Many of you will have already done this.

2) Set your scanner up in a low-light environment, like under a desk, and leave the lid open

3) Scan at 300dpi

You end up with a black field and little points of light where motes and constellations of dust have settled on your scanner plate. It's not something the readers are likely to notice, but it's a unique and personal sky if you're into that sort of thing.

Cool idea. I'll have to try that out. There's certainly enough dirt and specks on my scanner.
