I'm Tara, and I've been making comics since 1993

Hey, everybody!

I'm a comic creator in the Toronto area, and my main, life-consuming project is a science fiction story called Galaxion. I started in the '90s when black-and-white self-published comics were all the rage, and I began with those photocopied things we called minicomics. Did those for a few years, then published Galaxion as a comic book (distributed by Diamond, back when that was still possible for us independent creators), which ran bimonthly for 13 issues. I quit comics altogether for a few years while my kids were small, and then in 2006 I relaunched Galaxion as a webcomic. I've done a few other freelance projects, including a 40-page graphic novel on the Canadian astronauts (yes, Canada has astronauts) for Scholastic Education Canada, but Galaxion is what I love to do and spend most of my time on. It's an obsession. And that's my comic career in a nutshell. Yay!

I always enjoy chatting with fellow comic creators, so I look forward to the growth of this new community.  :)

Wow. What a career.

I had no idea Canada had astronauts... Their moose aren't they? Are you guys launching moose into space?

Seriously though I know Canadians have been going up in U.S. Missions for years. I don't know if they have ever participated in Russian or Chinese (space programs) but that wouldn't surprise me.

Diamond has been contracting over the years as all print is. Even I'm considering an E-Reader like a Kindle and I love the feel of a good book in my hands. It's tough to be in that business now. One of the nice things about webcomics is that it bucks the trend a bit. As folks might not be inclined to just buy a book on your webcomics in some random bookstore or comic shop, when your fans come to see you at conventions or visit your website they WANT your books as a token of the good times they remember. In many ways webcomics have become a way of marking the times in our lives. And that's good for us.

Welcome to the site.  ;)

Hi Tara! I bought a copy of Galaxion at Word on the Street, and thought it was really well done. I also pimped my own comic to you, but that's for another thread...

Hi Prankster!

Thanks!  :) I do remember you from WOTS. You're with the Durham Comics Guild, right? I keep hoping to get to a meeting one of these days, but the timing is difficult...

Oh wow, I love your lettering/ballooning.

You should do a tutorial!
