Hi everyone.

I've been lurking for a little while and it seemed like as good a time as any to say hi and start joining in.

I'm a 27 year-old Aussie and I've recently started taking up cartooning as a hobby again after quite a few years off.

I work in application support with a bit of database maintenance and programming work on the side, mainly working with financial applications.

As you can imagine spending 8-10 hours doing something rather left-brained I like to do something fairly different off the clock. I've been on a self-improvement kick the last few months and getting stuck back into my badly drawn artwork has been an incredibly rewarding and enjoyable experience  ;)

Without being obnoxiously self-deprecating, I'm fairly amateur. I basically did nothing art-wise for close to four years following my last foray into the world of webcomics, meaning no sketching, penciling, colouring, or artwork of any kind. That's made it a bit of a struggle to get myself back to a level I'm happy with but I think I'm slowly getting back there. Now I'm entering new territory and trying to improve my style, mainly working on non-standard poses, facial expressions backgrounds.

Anyway, hope to get to know you all better in the near future. I've been interested in talking to some like-minded folks for a while now and this place seems to have a great buzz about it.

Welcome to the fold. Glad you decided to introduce yourself. We have a lot of lurkers and they are all appreciated but it's even nicer when someone contributes.

I hope you find your time here productive and rewarding.  ;)

I'm fairly amateur.

I've seen people with far less developed skill than you have a shocking amount of success, so I think you should at least count yourself above average. Hell, I still think my artwork is crap but people like what I do, so I guess the lesson is not to let the self-deprecation guide you.

Gibson has a very good point. I've met very few artists who aren't unhappy with their work. Use those feelings to push you forward, not push you down.
