I like the clouds on page 1 better.  On page 2 it looks as though the sky was literally painted with clouds.  Unless that's something you're going for.  I guess it all depends on whether you intend for the art to be realistic of stylistic.

No, you're right, they looked kind of messy. I did a quick fix today and they look much better:

Quote from: Alectric on February 24, 2010, 11:59:48 PMThe sound effect looks good, but it does make the comic look a bit more...comical.  Whether you want that sort of tone is, again, up to you.

While this is a story driven comic, yeah, there's going to be quite a bit of comedy in it.

Quote from: Alectric on February 24, 2010, 11:59:48 PMYou do a good job with the eyes, especially on that last panel.  I'm a bit confused about their communication, though.  Are the speech bubbles meant to be blackened out, or is that just for here, to prevent spoilers?  They look too small to hold actual text, though.  If they don't communicate with their mouths, then I assume they do it with their minds?  Either way, having the speech bubbles shaped the way you normally see them for regular speech is confusing.  I'd recommend changing the way they're shaped, or otherwise presented.

Their speech bubbles are blackened out intentionally. Each of them also has a colour associated with the text in them. Humans will have regular speech bubbles, and I'm introducing all kinds of aliens eventually, most of whom will speak in different ways. They do speak psychically, but the issue is that if I were to make them with inverted tales or thought bubbles, they're not going to have the same impact. If i did that, at first glance, people reading it would likely be confused as to whether they were speaking to someone (based on the content) or themselves (based on the thought bubbles). Also, you can't fit a lot in those bubbles because not a lot is going in them.

Ran, I gotta tell you the color makes this page more readable ten-fold.

Good show.

Yes, the clouds look much better!  I honestly wouldn't be able to tell the difference now.

I was thinking something like this for the speech bubbles.

I'm not really sure I'm a fan of that. Hm =/

Yeah, I leave my black & whites as plain as possible. There are a lot of things that I don't feel comfortable expressing in my original inks because of the materials I use, and for fear of making them harder to colour. There's a lot you can do with photoshop that takes me minutes that I very well *could* do with traditional media, but would take hours. So my black and whites are usually confusing or really bland looking before they're coloured.
